| The
European Liaison Office functions as a 'listening
post' in Brussels, providing NASC partners
with timely information about relevant EU
matters and advising them about initiatives
they might take, either individually or
collectively, in response to the opportunities
and challenges represented by developments
at European level. The European Liaison
Office is also a resource on which the NASC
partners may draw when issues with a European
dimension arise in relation to which they
require information, advice or other assistance.
The Liaison Office maintains day-to-day
contact with the European institutions.
Additional functions are to facilitate and
support the efforts of the NASC partnership
in developing joint project proposals and
in implementing awareness-raising and case-making
initiatives. |

|
|
|
The
Brussels Office coordinates briefing programmes
for members and officers of the partner
organisations and assists in the implementation
of training programmes for their personnel,
often in collaboration with other bodies,
such as the International Centre for Development
Studies, NUI Galway; the Institute of
Public Administration, Dublin; and The
Louvain Institute for Ireland in Europe.

A
specific objective for the partnership
is to develop the 'capacity-building'
role of the Brussels office. A staff placement
scheme has been established, which gives
personnel from the partner organisations
an opportunity to work in Brussels for
periods of up to one year. This placement
is currently held by Ailish Rohan,
Mayo County Council. |
